Hello! My name is Alex and I’ve been a gamer since I was a little kid. I got an Xbox when I was 4 and would spend hours trying to progress in Spyro without knowing any English. The kindergarten had a computer that would most likely be occupied by me playing Pettsson & Findus or some math game. When I was at home, I would be playing Lego games on the family computer for hours on end. I’ve always been fascinated by games and wondered how they worked.
I’ve spent about 10 years learning how to write code. The first 3 years were a pain as I was stuck copying and modifying examples without really knowing what I was doing or what was going on. I figured that I should be learning about how a computer actually works before trying to learn code. Then, one day, it just clicked. I could understand what the lines of code meant by relating them to what they would make the computer do. From there, it became easier and easier to learn about more in-depth paradigms and developing my own way of writing code.
I’ve written code professionally for about 4 years while working at Provectus Consulting AB. I’ve had the chance to work with many kinds of systems, some of which consisted of code written decades ago. I’ve worked a lot with frontend, backend and database code and even worked on a couple of apps for both Android and iOS.
As a student at The Game Assembly, I’ve learned a lot about writing code specifically for making games and developing a game from an idea to a finished game with a team of people. It was a slow start as I had no experience in C++ or making games, but it was very fun and exciting, and I had many peers to ask for help when needed.
